The Fair Grove “Dance the Night Away” Middle School dance was held in the FEMA building on February 16, 2024, starting at 7:00 p.m.
Many Middle School teachers believe these dances are a fun opportunity for students. The 7th and 8th Grade Math teacher and Middle School Head Softball Coach, Samantha Orr, said, “I enjoy the opportunity to spend time with students outside of the classroom setting and school dances provide that space and opportunity for students to be themselves and have fun.”
Ms. Orr thinks that it is important for students to have fun outside of a classroom setting. Mrs. Orr stated, “Dances provide students with a structured yet fun event to experience with their friends and to have fun memories built within a school setting. Dances are a great way to connect with other students and adults beyond an academic setting.”
The Middle School Student Council prepared for the dance for weeks on end. Middle School STUCO member, Taylor Waltz (8) said, “We ordered everything a few weeks before the dance and stayed after school to put everything together. We also started putting together the balloon arch a few days before the dance.”
Waltz mentioned that her favorite part of every dance and this dance in particular was hanging out, socializing, and dancing with her friends. She anticipated many aspects of it, but the thing she anticipated the most was getting ready for the dance with her friends and dancing the night away with them.
Mrs. Orr mentioned that her favorite songs played at the dance was Cha Cha Slide by DJ Casper and Macarena by Los Del Rio. On the other hand, Waltz stated, “My favorite song at the dance was Cupid Shuffle by Cupid because the majority of people got together to dance to that song.”
The song selection was picked by the students, each student was sent a google form with a list of songs that were submitted and each student voted on three songs they wanted to be played at the dance. The songs were then compiled into a playlist.
The “Dance the Night Away” Valentine’s Day dance was held in the FEMA building on February 16, and provided a safe yet fun way for Middle School students to get out of the classroom setting to have a good time.
