The Fair Grove High School Cheer Team started off their fall season and competed in their first competition on September 21, 2024 in St. Louis, MO and finished first overall in the small school division.
Throughout this summer the Fair Grove Cheer Team has been in and out of the school practicing. Aubrie Voorhis (10) stated, “This preseason we have been in and out of the gym and moving around mats all summer long…” Voorhis also said that they have been working on building their endurance and stamina for the upcoming season.
One of the coaches, Samantha Padgett explained how the cheer team worked to get better since the summer. Padgett said, “For the current cheer season the cheer team started preparations over the summer. The team participated in summer weights, practice two times a week, and went to choreography camp.”
The cheer team will have two new cheer captains this year, Reese Wells and Nevaeh Lahey. They are taking big roles in the team. Padgett thinks that the cheer captains, and including Brooklyn Mauldin will do a great job leading the team this year.
With the start of the new season, the cheerleading team lost a few seniors. They lost Hannah Bruner, Piper Logan, Jeri McDougal, and Grace Trehal, and they brought on 7 new cheerleaders. Introducing Maryah Wisely (9), Lillie Arnold (9), Cayedence Drake (9), Zoe Baxter (9), Taylor Wisely (11), Addison Voorhis (10), and Alice McMains (10). Despite all the changes made to the team, Padgett believes that all 16 cheerleaders will all do great this year.
They were looking forward to the competition, Padgett stated, “We are so excited to be competing again this year.” Voorhis, ready for the competition exclaimed, “I am so excited for this competition!”
Voorhis added, “I personally have been working so hard and spending extra time perfection skills and movements.”
Showing their excitement, and putting in the hard work for the competition, Padgett stated before the competition, “I have no doubt that this team will go far at competition!”
She explained that they are hoping that all the work and hours that they put into preparation will pay off. According to Padgett their goal for the team is to hopefully place at the State competition in November.
