Stephanie Brown and Kezia Price are in charge of Fair Grove’s Art Department. Brown and Price work together to teach both Middle School and High School Art Classes.
Brown is the head of Fair Grove’s Art Department. Along with this, Brown teaches all of the High School Art Classes including Advanced Art, Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, and Mixed Media. Price is in charge of all Middle School Art Classes and one of the High School ceramics classes. According to Brown, her goal for the Art Department is to prepare students in High School for the next step.
Brown said, “I’m trying to prepare the younger kids, Drawing and Painting, Art One, etc, for the advanced level of projects that I need them to do. Not just something they’d hang in their room, but something more artistic, creative, and thought provoking.”
Price and Brown both have their own separate Art Clubs for Middle School and High School. Art Club is a place where kids will have the chance to be creative and connect with others through art. Brown said, “Art Club is meant to be a fun environment where my art students can come together and create fun crafty things that they are not able to do in actual class. They are sometimes themed with the season or holidays, which makes it a little more fun at times.”
The Middle School Art Club is separated by grades. Fifth grade is its own Art Club while sixth, seventh, and eighth grades are combined into another Art Club. A meeting for the Middle School Art Club will sometimes have a theme, but otherwise will have an open studio. Price’s goal for the Middle School Art Club is to deepen the member’s understanding of art. Price said, “Some goals for the middle school art department is to develop artistic skills, understand the visual world, develop critical thinking skills, build self-esteem, experimenting, and expressing individuality.” Price invites any Middle School Student to come to the Art Club.
High School Art Club has their themed meetings during advisory on the scheduled dates. The only requirement to join the High School Art Club is to be enrolled in at least one art class offered at Fair Grove High School. Brown explained, “The reasoning is to help control the size of the art club, materials used, etc.” One of Brown’s goals for the High School Art Club this year is to go on a field trip to the St. Louis Art Museum. Brown explained how planning this field trip takes a lot of work. Brown said, “It takes a lot of planning with the school calendar to work out dates and times that we can go, along with reserving a bus and working with their schedules.”
Middle School Art Club will be held every Thursday from 3:45-4:30 PM and High School Art Club will next meet November 6th, 2024 during advisory.
