The Fair Grove High School Football team improved to an even record of 4-4 this weekend, with a down to the wire win against Ash Grove which ended with a score of 7-6. Coming off a loss a weekend ago against Marionville (54-13) the Eagles were looking to rebound with a win vs. the Pirates.

“My main focus going into the game was to go out there to do everything I could to help the team win, and to just leave it all on the field. Our focus was to getting back on the winning track and to overcome adversity with the situation happening at school and with Coach Vorhis not being able to be there,” states Senior Dylan Lucas.

The game would head into halftime scoreless, but both teams would show spurts of offense in the second half. Lucas would finally get the Eagles on the board, and his run would turn out to be the Eagles only touchdown on the night. Fair Grove played a shutout defense throughout the game, until the 4th quarter, when the game saw Ash Grove score and make the game a close 7-6 tally. The Pirates would make the game even more interesting late in the fourth quarter, driving into the Eagle territory and threatening to steal the game in the closing minutes. Unfortunately for the home team, Lucas would again make a big play for his team and intercept the ball in the endzone to close out the win for the Eagles. “It was good to get a win after last week’s loss because it allows us to get back on track, and helps us come closer as a team,” states Lucas.

The Eagles will now turn their focus to Hollister, whom they play this Friday, October 17th at 7:00 P.M in Hollister. Hollister will be the Eagles last regular season game before heading into district play.
