Zachery Hessing is a Fair Grove high school student that has shown exceptional effort in creating his artwork.
Hessing is involved in different things in the school. He stated that he was involved in an after school art club as well as being involved in an after school weights program.
In the after school weights program Hessing has been showing growth in his hard work. He stated that one of his greatest accomplishments in the program was being able to bench press 225 pounds.
Stephanie Brown, the art teacher at Fair Grove High School, said, “His growth over the years is clearly evident. I remember Mrs. Hammers bringing him to my room when he was in middle school to show me his art. He now controls his line work and is much more intentional with his placements. He also puts more thought into his compositions.”
Hessing is always trying to get better than his past self and push the limits of what he can do. He stated that he has been relying on himself to get better and that he is always striving to be a better version of himself.
Brown has been pushing him to be better. She said, “I pushed him to learn and improve techniques he didn’t like. He now paints beautifully. I made him practice drawing realistically and creating depth, whereas before, his style was more sketchy. He still has a sketchy style, but now it looks more complete and like a finished piece of art.”
Brown said, “Zach was much tougher as a student in Art 1, Drawing/Painting, and Ceramics. He had a harder time creating art that wasn’t in his style or comfort zone. However, he excels as an advanced art student. When he is given the freedom to create what he wants, he really locks in and creates beautifully stylized pieces.”
Hessing has been a student that strived to get good grades. He stated that getting good grades has helped him build up his school career and be a more involved student.
Brown and Hessing have built a relationship with each other. Brown said, “I used to give him a hard time for all his silly ways. We get along really well. Last year, he didn’t take art, for whatever crazy reason, but he would still come into my room frequently. I sing on birthdays, so every time he came in, someone would say, “It’s Zach’s birthday!” and we would sing.”
Brown continued, “I will really miss having him in class next year! I hope he continues to create. I could see him having a career in the art field.”
