The beginning of this year’s baseball season is on the way with a positive start. With a record of 8-2, the team plans on taking this momentum all the way through their season.
Senior baseball player Spensar Seiger responded, ¨This season has been pretty great so far. We are 8-2. We have quite a few conference games coming up such as Forsyth, and Hollister. We also play Licking this Saturday who are a young team with lots of talent.” Seiger continued, “At practice we try to get as many reps of everything as possible, swinging, fielding, situational hitting, all of those things we try and do on a daily basis.” With these games coming up, the Fair Grove baseball team is taking every chance they can to practice and refine their skills. Yet it’s not just players that are getting ready for the season.
When asked the same question, head baseball coach, and Fair Grove teacher William Reed stated, “We started the year in a tournament in Harrison, Arkansas. We lost a couple of games to bigger schools in Bolivar and West Plains. Since then, we have played much better and won eight straight games, giving us a record of 8-2.” Reed continued, “April 8th against Forsyth will be a big conference game. We are both 2-0 in conference play at this time. On April 12th, we play Licking, who has been to back-to-back Final 4s, and on April 14th, we play Springfield Catholic, who is always really good.”
Reed expressed their preparation for the games stated. “In practice, we try to get as many quality reps as we can in a short amount of time. We play so many games that guys can get pretty tired, so practice needs to be short and efficient. This is a fun group of guys to be around and compete with!”
Baseball senior Kellan Kirtpatrick concluded their most recent trials, ¨We played a tournament in Harrison Arkansas. Overall we prepared ourselves to win the most games possible and keep our skills in the best shape possible to better our performance.¨
