Multiple Fair Grove DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) students qualified for the state and international competitions. These students finished their competition season at ICDC (International Career Development Conference) in Orlando, Florida.
This year Fair Grove had five students qualify for state. Qualifiers for DECA state were: Cinch Dowling (9) and Lexie Lepold (9) for Travel and Tourism Team Role play, and Addyson Nunley (11) and Leila Huff (11) for Hospitality and Tourism Team role play. Addison Voorhis (10) and Kynlee Peck (10) automatically qualified for internationals with their School Based Enterprise project. Skyelar Farthing (10) competed at districts and qualified for internationals in the Leadership Delegate category.
DECA students have described that being at the state competition is a fun time. Lepold said, “State was a ton of fun as well as hard work. Me and Cinch would meet early in the morning to prepare for competition. When we weren’t competing we were able to explore all the building’s amenities.”
Farthing spoke about the environment of being at state, “The environment at state is very energetic. Everyone gets out of their comfort zone and talks to different people. It’s a very judgmental free zone.”
Voorhis, Peck, and Farthing who were the only competitors who qualified for the international competition.
