The Fair Groves Future Business Leaders of America and Distributive Education Clubs of America (FBLA/DECA) have recently gone through an SBE Certification.

Saylor Cowles (12) and Allison Findley (12) both participated in the SBE Certification for DECA. They wrote a report that consisted of 50 pages over the Fair Grove Flight Gear Store. “I was nervous that we missed something or we might get counted off for the smallest errors. But we exceeded all expectations and received gold,” said Cowles, “We spent hours and hours typing the report. There were many nights that we were up until 1 a.m, so when we hit submit, it was a weight off of our shoulders!”

On February 6 at the Baptist Church in Bolivar, Missouri, Addyson Nunley (10) and Atticus Brandes (11) took part in district competitions for FBLA. Nunley and Brandes prepared for their competition by studying flashcards and quizlets. They both earned themselves the outstanding ranks in the competitions. Nunley placed 1st place in her Advertising test, and Brandes placed 1st in both his Entrepreneurship and Sports and Entertainment Management competitions. Brandes added, “I love FBLA, I like going to all of the events that we put on and I like competing in districts among my peers.”

FBLA and DECA give its members great opportunities to get a head start in the business world and marketing. Not only do they gain new connections and closer bonds with their peers, but they also get to study and experience different types of businesses for the future. “I love FBLA and DECA. I enjoy making connections with other students and competitors and getting to learn more about a career I’m interested in,” said Nunley.

FBLA and DECA gives students the knowledge on how to be successful, great leadership skills, and entrepreneurs for things similar like finance, hospitality, and management. Cowles explained, “FBLA/DECA helps you prepare for the future because it can get you out into the real world with other people that you may not know. Another thing is it’s a good way of networking and getting job experience.”

FBLA and DECA continue to work and practice for their upcoming competitions. The students continue to spread positivity and encouragement to their peers as they trudge along the path of future business, marketing, leadership, and management.

Findley and Cowles received a gold level certification from DECA. According to a press release from DECA, “DECA’s School-based Enterprise Certification Program provides recognition for outstanding achievement by school-based enterprises and motivates SBEs to strive for excellence and growth.”

Upcoming soon is an international DECA competition that will take place from April 26 to May 1 in Anaheim, California.
