Cross Country started the season strong with one first place finish by Katrina Cantwell (11), and a fourth place finish by Cinch Dowling (10), in the Strafford meet at Fellows Lake.
Jalen Supancic is the coach for the cross country team, Middle school Track and Field coach, and also a teacher in the Fair Grove school district. Supancic has been coaching cross country for six years at Fair Grove. Supancic stated, “All of our athletes have made big strides, with several of them putting in some very heavy mileage this summer.”
Cross Country pre-season started in late August of 2025. They have been putting in the work to be the best they can be. John Kolb (10) is a cross country athlete and student at Fair Grove. Kolb said, “The first week was tough, but it has been good so far.”
Supancic said, ”I think that some of our younger athletes have a lot of potential to step up and succeed.” He’s excited to see their younger athletes grow, and start to compete at varsity level.
The cross country team has thirteen meets this season, not including state 2025 at Columbia Missouri. Kolb said,” I am most excited for the SWCCCA (Southwest Cross Country meet Coaches Association).” The SWCCCA meet was September 6th, 2025, and Kolb placed 60th.
Kolb brought up that he thinks the key runners this season are Whitehead, Dowling, and Cantwell, and Andrew Farrar (11). The team has been awarded six medals total for the boys and girls team.
The boys team took Fair Grove to state in cross country last year in 2024. This year they think they have a potential state competitor this year 2025. One of them is Cantwell, who has shown promising results so far into the season.
The Fair Grove home cross country meet will be October 2nd, 2025. It will also be the senior night for Fair Grove. There are four seniors on the team and they are putting in effort for their last cross country meet. Supancic explained, “Our team’s leaders, Audrey Lemon (12) and James Boyer (11), are doing a great job of getting our team ready and able to compete.”
The Midlakes Conference meet will be hosted on October 22, 2025, by Reed Springs.
