Stream team is a program in Missouri where the people involved participate in different projects that benefit the environment. Fair Grove students have their own stream team and they go to various streams in the surrounding area and inspect the stream to test the water quality in that area. Middle school teachers, Mrs. Schnakenberg and Ms. Martin are the club sponsors of stream team. They also participate in Shoe Box for Soldiers, where they send gifts overseas to soldiers around Christmas time. The club is made up of both middle school and high school students. “We tend to have 12-15 students actively involved in stream team from year to year,” Mrs. Schnakenberg said.

Anyone who is interested in conservation and the environment can join the club and participate in club activities. Stream team has been actively involved over the past few years. Mrs. Schnakenberg stated, “We have done water quality for Potter’s Ford stream, as well as raised money to buy gifts for the shoe boxes. A few years ago the club made a recycling bin and placed it in the front of the building reinforcing students to recycle.” The club takes part in a lot of projects that are helpful to the environment and the community.

The stream team went on a field trip to Bennett Springs on Friday, October 27th. Jacob Buckner is a freshman who has been involved in stream team since the eighth grade. He said that on the field trip they observed the different stages of a trout’s life cycle. Buckner said that his favorite part of stream team is “Being able to learn about the different types of animals ambiguous to Missouri.” The group will participate in more projects throughout the year, including the Shoe Box for Soldiers event that they help with every year.
