Elementary safety night is a new thing for Fair Grove schools. The evening occured on October 16, from 6-8p.m. Hosted by the Fair Grove PTO, they used this as an opportunity to also have a small bake sale to raise money for the school. The Fire Department, Fair Grove Police, Fair Grove Bus Drivers, and some people from an internet safety group came out to the elementary to explain basic safety practices to the children and parents. The event served as both a fun night with friends and a learning experience for the kids. A large population of the elementary students and family came out and had partook in the night. “It was a pretty good turn out of people!” states Coby Appleton (Junior).

The occasion had numerous activities for the kids to do. From a rock wall climb to a bean bag toss, the variety of the games and experiences seemed to draw in the young students. The learning activities included, but was not limited to, a bus safety maze, trying on bike helmets, and a table with goodies from the police officers. The most popular event of the night, due to number of kids, was getting to smash a plate of whipped cream pie in a couple of the teachers faces. “It was really funny getting to watch my principal get pied!” says Arien Mazelin(1st grade).

The event also served as an opportunity for the National Honor Society members in the high school to put some of their service hours in. The members of the NHS served as greeters and workers. Whether the work was popping popcorn, herding around the young Eagles, or moving around the tables, the work was done. “It was nice to get to see all of the kids learning while having fun,” remarked Kayla Bruemmer (Junior), “They all seemed to enjoy it a lot.”
