What I’m Watching

Nick Andrews, News Editor, Website Co-Editor

When it comes to weeknight television, it can be hard to decide what to watch. You have the shows that are on the main networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX), and then you have the shows on smaller cable networks, (TNT, Discovery, History Channel, etc.), and thats a lot of T.V. shows. Even  I personally find it difficult to go through the old shows that I liked, and the new shows, to decide what I’m going to watch. That being said, there are certain shows that I know are going to be either a complete knockout, or at least not totally waste my time.

Chicago Fire: This show is one of my favorites. Airing at 9:00 Central Time on Tuesday nights on NBC, this show features the daily struggles of life inside firehouse 51. Some main characters on the show include Lieutenant Kelly Severide, played by Taylor Kinney, (boyfriend of lady gaga), Jesse Spencer, Eamonn Walker, and Monica Raymund. Kinney has had a number of recurring roles on tv shows such as Fashion House, and Trauma, but is most notable known for his role as one of the seals who took down Osama Bin Ladin in 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty. As previously stated, this show follows the lives of the firefighters and EMT’s at Chicago’s Firehouse 51. While predominantly a drama, this show adds quick spurts of humor that lighten the overall dark tone of the show.

Person of Interest: Another show that I personally enjoy watching, is Person of Interest. Starring Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, and Kevin Chapman, this show is set in modern day New York City where a billionaire software developer has created a machine that monitors everyone, every minute of every day, in order to stop terrorism and major violent crimes. Harold Finch, played by Emerson, is the machines creator and liaison, who recruits ex green-beret John Reese (Jim Caviezel) to help him stop the “bad guys”. This show airs at 9:00 on Tuesday nights on CBS.

Survivor: This is probably the only ‘Reality T.V.’ show that I personally watch. Reality T.V. just really isn’t my cup of tea, except for this show. Survivor pits 18 castaways on an island, in two separate tribes. The castaways have create a camp, compete in challenges, and vote other contestants off the island. In the final episode, the remaining castaways try to convince the eliminated contestants to give them the prize money of 1,000,000. It airs on wednesday nights at 7:00, on CBS.

NCIS: Airing on tuesday nights at 7:00, this show follows agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in Washington D.C., and there lives solving crimes against military personnel. While technically a crime/mystery show, this show has many moments of comedy and humor, making it quite enjoyable to watch. Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Sean Murray, Pauley Perrette, and David McCallum all star, giving a lot of depth to the show.
