On Tuesday December 9th the Boys’ Basketball team hosted their first home game of the 2014-2015 season against Mount Vernon. There was a Freshman, JV, and Varsity game that took place. The Varsity was upset with a 71-55 loss to the Class 3 Mountaineers. Kyle Cavanaugh lead the Eagles in scoring with 19 points. After the first quarter the score was tied at 17, but the Mountaineers started to take the lead in the second quarter. The Eagles came out strong in the second half, but were unable to come back and overcome the first half deficit. Head coach Tim Brown said, “We are going to continue to work on toughness and effort drills and work on our offensive execution (zone offense) in particular. The only way to bounce back from a loss is to learn from it, get better, and move on.”

The JV and Freshmen teams both got wins on Tuesday night. The JV took a lead early in the game during the first half with the score at half time of 22-13. The leading scorer for JV was Steven Huskey. Dalton Cloyd said, “We played well as a team and we pulled down a lot of rebounds. We played really hard.”

The Freshmen had a close game and were losing up until the end. With 25 seconds left and a tied ball game, Jayden Kensinger drove in and hit a shot that he would get fouled on and be sent to the free-throw line. After missing his free-throw, Kensinger rebounded his shot, got fouled and was once again sent to the line for a one-one. Kensinger made both free-throws, and Hunter Maxwell ended the game with a steal and a lay-up for the Freshmen Eagles’ first win of the season.

The next game for the Eagles is December 16 at home against Hollister, with the Freshmen starting the action off at 5pm, and JV and Varsity to follow.
