Wow Wow Wednesday in the Elementary

Sara George, Asst. Elementary

Every month the Elementary holds a character assembly in the Upper Elementary gym. The assembly occurs within the first Wednesday of the month and starts at eight a.m. The assembly lasts about half an hour and parents are invited to come and watch their child receive a certificate and medal.

During the assembly kids, grades pre-k through fourth, sit on the floor of the gym while the principal, Charity Hollan, calls out the name on the certificate. Each child is chosen either by a teacher or another faculty member. They are chosen based on how they showed the character word of the month.

The character word that was awarded on January 7th was kindness. The fourth graders were awarded first and pre-k last. Some of the teachers also received certificates for showing kindness throughout the month of December. This month, teachers will be looking for students who are showing perseverance.

Charity Hollan stated, “The students are always excited when it’s their turn to walk down the red carpet.” As the students received their certificates, they walked through a curtain and down a red carpet. After that the kids would go into the commons area and get their picture taken with their award. Hollan also said, “It’s a good reminder to practice good character all month.”
