FFA Greenhand Conference was held at MSU on January 7th. 11 Greenhand members left at 8 in the morning and missed school until around 2 pm. Along with going to the conference members also ate at Cici’s Pizza for lunch.

Mr. Stockton was the advisor joining the Greenhand group on this trip. Stockton commented, “The conference is to show new members what FFA does, some activities they do, and a few ways to get involved.” He also says this is a great way to magnify what the FFA does and what they are all about.

Sierra Anderjaska added, “It’s important to see how the FFA could have an impact in a high school, and throughout your life. Also it shows how you can contribute.”
Other schools in Area X FFA also attended this conference. Stockton feels the conference is a great way for the Greenhands to get to know the people in Area X. He also feels it helps to show different ways the young members can help out in the community, or projects (SAEs) that the Greenhands can be involved with by showing what other members are doing. The State Officers also gave examples of ways Greenhands could get involved.

All first year FFA members are considered Greenhands. In the Fair Grove FFA chapter they had 11 members that attended the conference. These members got to meet the State FFA Officers at the conference. The Officers performed a skit to start out that helped to get the Greenhand members involved. The members then split into random groups to meet new people and get to know more about individual State Officers and how they got started being involved. While in groups, members were also pushed to reach out of their comfort zones.. Sierra Anderjaska said, “We split into groups and talked about the steps to be successful in the FFA and also to set goals to strive to be a better member.” Anderjaska also added that before returning to the group with everyone, they played a game to show the importance of FFA.
