Monday, March 2nd was the start of the Fair Grove girl’s spring soccer season. In between the fall and spring season the girls have been staying busy by playing indoor soccer at Lake Country in Springfield. The girls used this to practice during the winter months. The Lady Eagles will be returning several of their leading scorers this year, including Jordan Robertson and Jorden Stacey who both tallied nine goals each last year. The girls finished last season with a 13-9 record, and look to build on that this year.

The team will be introducing numerous new girls to this season, and their teammates are relying on them to step up in place of the previous seniors. “I think they’ll be able to (step up), but there’ll be a learning curve early in the season,” says head soccer coach Joseph Florez.

Haileigh Houston, a forward on the varsity team, is looking forward to seeing the team come together and develop during the season. “I’m excited to get to know my teammates better.”

Florez’s goal for this season is to go over .500 on their wins to losses ratio and to win the district tournament. Houston expects to have more wins than losses this season. “I’m very enthusiastic about this season,” Houston states.

The girl’s first game is an invitational at home on March 20th and 21st. They will play against Branson, Stover, and Monett on the 20th, as well as Laquey and Marshfield on the 21st. The girls also had a jamboree at Hillcrest on March 13th, where they played against Hillcrest, Branson, and Laquey. The team did not score, but gave up zero goals.
