September 11th SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) held a kick-off party after the Catholic football game in the high school gym to promote students to make good, healthy decisions. SADD provided pizza, fried oreos, snow cones, drinks, and fun games to participate in during the kick-off. John Foster led activities with help from the officers and other volunteers. Foster has been the sponsor of SADD for 17 years. He says, “My favorite part of being the SADD sponsor is encouraging kids to make good choices that last a lifetime, and having fun with the students.”

Ashlee Rice is one of many SADD focus group presidents as well as a very active member. She helped organize the kick-off and said, “I was happy with how it went and with how many kids showed up. The games that we played were really fun, and we got to eat some awesome food!” There were two games that were played during the course of the night: a form of dodgeball and pool noodle fighting. The pool noodle fighting got very competitive between the four groups, and the top two teams received candy at the end of the battles. Foster stated, “We hold the Kick-Off every year to give the kids something in return for joining SADD.”

Kelli Oplotnik, a senior SADD member senior, said, “The kick-off went really well this year, and a lot of kids showed up. I’m glad that SADD holds this every year because it gives students a chance to influence each other in a positive way and show everyone how much fun we can have while making good decisions.” Laura Jackson, junior, stated, “This is a club that keeps people out of trouble and gets them involved in better activities outside of school.”
