Advice to Incoming Freshmen

Kaitlyn Spracklen, Reporter

There are many keys of survival the incoming freshman need to know for their first year of high school. The first thing you should know to do is to always eat breakfast. Most high schoolers now, don’t eat breakfast and it’s hard for them to be attentive during class time. If you don’t eat breakfast you will be focused on how hungry you are during your classes until you eat some lunch. Also, it is proven that if you don’t eat breakfast you will have a bad attitude.

Another key to surviving your coming high school years is to always get eight hours of sleep. If you don’t get your full eight hours of sleep, you will more than likely fall asleep in class. In Ms. Brannock’s, you will never live it down if you sleep in her class! It is also hard to take in new information when you’re tired, therefore you will probably start to get bad grades, or if you sleep in class, possibly detention.
An additional key to surviving is to not over study or under study. If you over study you are more likely to overthink questions on your tests or quizzes. Also you will become more stressed, and if you get stressed enough it can cause you to stop taking in the information. Remember to take a breather sometimes and not over-do yourself. If you under study… Well good luck! I promise you that you won’t succeed, if you don’t study and try your best. If you don’t understand something just ask your teachers or classmates and they will help you get back on track!

The final key to surviving your high school career is to have fun and be involved! You should join as many clubs as you want and also go to the sporting events. You should pick a club that’s right for you. There are many clubs to choose from such as, FCCLA, FBLA, JOLT, SADD, FTA, FFA, etc. All of the clubs offer great opportunities and chances to make new friends. Get involved with either being in a sport or cheering the FGHS athletes on at games. By doing this it will help you boost the school’s spirit. It’s contagious!

As long as you follow these keys you should fly by high school no problem. Make sure to do your best and have fun at the same time! If you have any more questions about what to do or expect during your high school years you can usually ask anyone around and they’ll help you out. Have a nice year!
