The Fair Grove school district hosted Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, October 20th and Thursday, October 22nd. During this time, parents scheduled a time to meet with their child’s teachers to discuss concerns and improvements. These conferences allowed parents to get involved in their child’s school career. For many parents, however, that involvement is limited to their attendance at Parent Teacher Conferences.
“These conferences give the teachers a chance to meet parents face to face, which can open the door to better communication throughout the school year,” said high school counselor, Tonya Peck.
Parents got to visit with their child’s teachers about their progress in class including grades, behavior, and understanding of the material being taught. Many factors greatly benefit the teachers, including a greater communication with students and parents, clarification of the student’s abilities, the opportunity to create a plan with parents in order to see better results from the student, and on the nights of conferences, the school provides lunch to the staff.
Nikki Kisling, high school math teacher adds, “I believe Parent/Teacher Conferences are beneficial for me because I can make a game plan with the parents in order to make their student become more successful in my class, whether that means they need to come in for help after school, or get some extra one on one time in class. As soon as this plan is created, the student should be on track to better results and grades.”
