Every December the residents of Fair Grove bundle up and head to the mill for the annual Fair Grove Christmas tree lighting. There, they can enjoy watching the Fair Grove Color Guard and Band perform, followed by catching candy from those in the parade. When the parade comes to an end everyone heads over to the mill to listen to mayor Tim Smith speak.

Each year, the key to the city of Fair Grove is presented to a person who has worked to make Fair Grove a better place. This year, Mayor Smith presented the award to the Fair Grove Historical and Preservation Society. Smith adds, “I was born and raised in Fair Grove, and I am both proud and humbled to have been allowed to honor the folks who have done so much for this town. My family was part of the Historical Society from the beginning (in fact, the charter document was written at our dining room table) — so, I am very emotionally invested in the town and the folks who live here.”

The Historical Society assembles the heritage reunion arts and crafts festival, provides the grounds that are used for various events, and even put on the ice cream social. The Historical Society has also helped with restoring the Wommack Mill and many other improvements to Fair Grove to make it a more alluring place.

After the Mayor presented the key, everyone was able to enjoy the singing of the High School Honor Choir, followed by the Singing Eagles. Following the choir performances people were able to go inside of the mill and have refreshments, talk with the Mayor and even talk to and take pictures with Santa. Parker Van Nostrand commented, “I enjoyed the Mill Lighting because it was cool to see the town of Fair Grove come together and celebrate people’s hard work.”
