Online dating is a 350 word contest between a ton of people behind a screen, competing to see who can come up with the best “About Me” section, who take a picture from strange angles with the worst lighting, and silently hope that they have a match. What happened to bumping into the love of your life at a coffee shop, or falling in love with that guy in the subway, or the classic, it’s raining and I forgot my umbrella (cue the angelic looking man with the double wide parasol to save the day)? I mean, you only really see that happening with the twenty-some year old… thus FarmersOnly.com was born.

Online dating is okay if you’re beyond the age of 30. That’s it, no exceptions. I feel like if you’re 25 or so, you still have a chance at the coffee shop rendezvous. And, by that time if you aren’t with someone, there is probably a larger range of people looking for a nice financially stable 30 year old that likes long walks on the beach. You’re financially stable by 30 at least, right? Well anyway, if you haven’t found the love of your life through simple interaction by 40, sounds like you need Match.com.

If you do decide to make an online dating profile, then don’t lie. I mean, come on. If you are searching for potential love and your whole profile is made up, you aren’t starting this relationship out very strong. Be honest in all of your answers. Put a picture on there that isn’t through a mirror. Maybe tell them about all of the kids you have. It’s okay to tell them a white lie like how many dogs you have or something but let’s go ahead and make your appearance a must when it comes to truth on the profile. Online dating is made for people to find the love of their life, but if you’re like 20 and looking for a date, maybe try Instagram.
