On September fourth and fifth the Fair Grove Soccer team hosted their fourth annual home soccer tournament. They took second in the tournament facing well balanced teams Laquey, Aurora, and Riverton. Fair Grove won the tournament last year but ended up taking second place this year with a record of 2-1.

Fair Grove kicked off the tournament by scorching Riverton 7-0 and looked to take that momentum into a tough Aurora match. ¨Aurora looked strong, and really moved the ball well against us¨, stated Fair Grove coach Joseph Florez. The Eagles fell to the Aurora Dawgs 6-1, Elias Morelan (12) stated ¨Aurora was definitely an eye opener that we still have a lot of things that we can improve on as a team.”

After a tough loss to the Dawgs, Florez and the Eagles set their sights on a very good Laquey team. The game stayed locked in a 0-0 tie through two halves and through overtime. In PK´s (penalty kick) Fair Grove took the lead scoring on all of their chances and goaltender Garrett Kesterson (12) saved three of Laquey´s shots. Fair Grove ended up taking second this year in their tournament because it is based on a point system.

With eight returning starters from last years team, which was the only team in Fair Grove history that competed in a district championship, the Eagles are looking to take even bigger steps this year. ¨ I hope to make it back to the district championship and come out on top this year,” stated senior goalie Garrett Kesterson. Fair Grove still has a thick schedule to go through as they will prepare for districts during the Stover Classic which will be held on October 10th.
