The middle school cross country team started the season on September 3rd at their Fellows Lake meet. With 8 runners, four girls and four boys, they’ve been working hard to prepare and condition the runners. Coach Brendan Carroll commented, “The middle school team has been doing many of the same workouts as the high school team, but in an abbreviated form. They run either less distance or less time than the high school runners.” They continue to work hard at their practices in preparation for their upcoming meets.

The team has set many goals for this season, one of which is to win medals. Coach Carroll mentioned, “It is always great to get medals.” During practice the middle schoolers have really focused on improving their running ability and endurance. They usually have practices every day after school with the high school team from 3:15 until around 4:00.

They have been working so hard towards this season and will continue to do so until their next meet. The middle school runners have been pushing themselves to succeed with their training. Coach Carroll added, “The most important thing is for them to consistently improve their speed and conditioning. If they do that, success will follow.”

There’s no doubt that cross country takes a certain mental drive, one that many people lack, but this year’s middle school cross country team has definitely got it. As their next meet approaches they will continue their training, running 2 to 3 miles everyday.

The next scheduled meet is the MLC meet, on Thursday October 13th, at Fellows Lake.
