Going beyond expectations, the volleyball girls ended this year’s season with a winning record. Working hard in the offseason definitely affected this year’s team keeping them in shape and ready for any team they could play. Having many underclassmen seeing a spot to step into, several of them took the opportunity to take the varsity minutes. Not only did they keep a winning season, but they also helped Coach Peck with reaching her 400th win, which is a huge success!
After graduating seven seniors last year that played varsity, this year’s team was predicted to have a losing season, but with a record of 28-7-1 they proved everyone wrong. Peck said, “Overall, I believe we were able to surprise some people. With the graduation of seven seniors last season, many thought we would not have a successful year. We strengthened our schedule even more this season and this team was able to compete.” Several underclassmen stepped up this season proving that they could fill the big shoes that were left open.
One of the biggest accomplishments that happened with the volleyball team this year is their coach, Tonya Peck, receive her four hundredth win of her career after coaching at Fair Grove for sixteen years. This year the team set many goals they wanted to accomplish. Goals such as giving more effort on the court, beating certain rival teams, and winning the Ash Grove tournament. Peck stated, “Some of our goals were to be able to give more on the court. By the last few weeks of the season we were seeing much more heart in our play.”
