Fair Grove Cross Country Team Finishes Solid Season

Cody Sisco

Fair Grove cross country just wrapped up a great season. Over the course of this fall they have competed in eight cross country meets and in all but two of those meets, a runner from Fair Grove has come home with medals. Some meets are extremely large like the team’s first meet in Strafford which contained 130 boys, 120 girls, and 101 middle school boys and girls, but smaller meets like the Mid-Lakes Conference meet only had 55 boys and 20 girls compete. When asked how the season went head coach Brendan Carrol explained, ¨It went well, several runners brought home individual medals.¨
The team will be losing six seniors heading into the 2017 season. Four seniors walked away with medals this season. Seniors like Cole Clark, Maegan Holland, and Lauren Nimmo won medals in at least two meets over the course of the season. Maegan Holland medaled in three straight meets, one of which was a ninth place finish in a meet with 64 girls. Her best meet being a seventh place finish at the Mid-Lakes Conference meet. Lauren Nimmo and Meagan Holland were also named All Conference. Carroll expressed that many runners show much improvement over the season and is excited to see what next year has to offer the team.
Even after an impressive season, sadly no one qualified to make the trip to compete at state. Logan Holliman who competed at state last year started strong with a tenth place finish at Strafford and a ninth place finish at Stockton but due to health issues Logan was not able to compete in later meets. Carrol plans on increasing the intensity at practices in order to become more competitive for next year’s meets. It is no doubt the team finished and impressive season and plan to be even better in 2017.
