Fair Grove High School offers many interesting clubs that meet on the first Wednesday of every month. On club days different clubs meet every hour. From academic clubs to something involving your hobbies, there’s a place for everyone. Some popular clubs include SADD, FCCLA, FTA, and FFA

 

National Honor Society (NHS) is a club that meets 6th hour every club day. To be in NHS you have to have be in 11th or 12th grade with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Members of NHS help with projects around the school such as the school’s coffee shop. Their sponsor, Amy Johnson, commented, ¨We focus our time on service projects within the surrounding and run the school Coffee Shop.¨

 

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) meets 7th hour. They stand for making the right decisions like staying away from parties, drugs and alcohol. SADDs president, Amanda Orr (12), said “At club meetings we usually talk about the things we stand for and then Foster will probably have some games for us to play at the end. It’s a lot of fun.”

 

After second lunch on club days Book Club meets to talk about authors, new books and some other books that seem to be popular. They meet in the library for club meetings and talk about interesting books people have been reading or want to read. A club member, Ryan Odom (11) said “I get to have fun with my friends and get out of class while doing it.”

 

Speech team and Theatre club overlap a lot. When they meet they assign and discuss pieces and performances for upcoming competitions. They also talk about who will be going to the next competitions and what tournaments they will attend next. Speech and theatre have competitions from October – April so to prepare they meet up a few days a week before and

after school.

 

Future Teachers of America (FTA) is to get students interested in a career in the field of education. They work on the teacher of the month, and help with the Elementary Grandparents Day. Their sponsor, Beth Mauldin stated,  “We support the teachers, students, and parents in our school district.”

 

The Student Council (STUCO) is a club that you have to be voted in for. They volunteer around the school and help teachers and students. They get students involved with school by coming up with themes for the dances, and spirit week ideas. Mark Cockroft (12) said, “We come up with the spirit weeks to get students involved. We also work with things like the Veterans Day assembly.”

 

Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a club for students to become better family members, wage earners, and community leaders. Sponsor, Darci Friberg, commented, “It’s a student led organisation with family as the main focus.” At club meetings they plan ways for students to get involved and do team building exercises.

 

Quiz Bowl is a club for everyone. Quiz Bowl is about students answering questions to do with Math, History, English, Science and even Pop Culture. They also have Scholars Bowl. Michelle Wahlquist says, “Scholars Bowl is for the kids ready to compete.” Scholars Bowl is just like Quiz Bowl, except they compete in tournaments.

 

Future Farmers of America (FFA) is about getting students involved in agriculture. On club days they talk about upcoming events of the coming weeks. They talk about ways members can get involved. Sierra Anderjaska (12) commented, “All our activities are only as fun as they make it.”

 

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) meets every 5th hour. FBLA provides professional experiences through the clubs competitions and events. FBLA is sponsored by Cayse Overstreet and Shandra Robinson. It prepares students to be in business positions in their future careers. Mrs. Overstreet said ¨FBLA gives students real-world professional experiences through competitions and events put on by FBLA.¨ She then added, ¨Not to mention it’s a lot of fun!¨
