On November 1st, 2017 Fair Grove High School hosted the Soft Skills Fair in the high school gym. The Juniors and Seniors attending Fair Grove were required to attend the fair from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. The school gathered 19 different business leaders to talk to the students at Fair Grove about interview techniques, how to get a good job and where to start.

After the Juniors and Seniors were called out of class Fair Grove’s FBLA sponsor, Mrs Sandra Robinson introduced two representatives from JMARK business solutions, INC. They then showed the students a slideshow of what exactly the soft skills fair is about and what they can do to help students in the future. At JMARK, the company strives to make sure that you have a great layout for your future goals. “The Soft Skills Fair benefits the students by putting them into a position to where they can learn what is important to them so they can prepare themselves for the interview process and the application process,” Representative from JMARK, Russel Winterburg states.

After the introductory presentation, the students were broken into smaller groups and were sent to separate stations throughout the gymnasium. The business leader mentors had 15 minutes with each group of students. At each station, the mentors explained what their job was and what they could do to benefit students after graduating to get a job. Each station was different than the next. Some of the groups had a game that would relate to their topic. One of the mentors that attended had interview jenga. Each student pulled out a block and she would ask the student the question written on the block.

As the time went on the students got to learn more and more about how to get started in the working world after high school or college. Many of the mentors handed  out business cards and real life interview questions to help the students at Fair Grove prepare for the real world.
