Starting on Monday November 27, and ending on Friday, December 1st, the high school girls basketball team hosted an invitational basketball tournament in the high school gym. This invitational tournament was the first big tournament that the Fair Grove girls basketball team hosted this season.

Because it was their first tournament, these games allowed the team to gain some time on the floor against other schools, but also meant they would have the least amount of experience going into their first tournament. The girl’s head coach, Mrs. Talbert said, “We have been practicing very hard. We are trying to get our girls in shape before our first big tournament.”

There were also many large schools that participated,  which added even more difficulty to the tournament. “The tournament has many big schools, like West Plains, Lebanon, and Rogersville, as well as schools more our size like clever and buffalo,” Mrs. Talbert stated.

Even though this was the first tournament of the season, and the Lady Eagles played against many larger schools, they still experienced much success, and ended in first place at the end of the tournament.

The first game that the Lady Eagles participated in was against Monett on November 27th at 6:00 PM. The Fair Grove girls basketball team took the win that night by beating Monett 66-52. The second game took place on Thursday, November 30th, against Logan-Rogersville. The Lady Eagles took the win over Logan-Rogersville, 57-47, which allowed them to proceed to a Friday night Championship game against Clever’s girls basketball team. Friday night’s game resulted in a win for Fair Grove, which in turn won the Invitational Tournament.

This tournament was a good event to kick off the girls’ basketball season, and test their skills going into this year. It gave the girls an extra three games on their home court and prepared them for the upcoming battles they will face this season.
