Every month FTA (Future Teachers of America) chooses a different teacher to be the Teacher of the Month. To choose the Teacher of the Month the FTA members split the teachers into two branches, “Language Arts” or “Practical Arts,” then discusses the good teaching methods the teachers use and their extra-curricular jobs. “We also try to avoid making it a simple popularity contest; the secret ballot voting takes place after discussion,” says FTA leader Mrs. Beth Mauldin.

This month, science teacher, Mr. Jon Foster was chosen to be the Teacher of the Month. Mr. Foster teaches Biology, Chemistry, and Physics and has been teaching for 22 years and does not plan on retiring any time soon. “I enjoy my job; I don’t dread coming to Fair Grove, I look forward to it,” says Foster. He was inspired to become a teacher by teaching younger children in church during his middle school years, he then decided to pursue it as he got older.

Mr. Foster leads both S.A.D.D and Jolt/FCA in Fair Grove High School. S.A.D.D is a club focused on keeping teens safe from the dangers of drinking, smoking, drugs, etc. He brings in many different speakers to discuss their experiences with drugs or drinking and how it affected their life and the ones around them. Jolt/FCA is a club that is about religion and Christianity. “I love Jesus Christ and I want them to know what that’s like. I also hope they would look back at their time in my class and know they were treated fairly,” proclaimed Foster. Mr. Foster’s goal is to both teach and learn from his students; everyday he looks forward to coming in to Fair Grove and being a leader to those that look up to him making him a great recipient of Teacher of the Month.
