Spring Sports are in full swing at this time of the year. Fair Grove has many sports going on, including softball, baseball, golf, girl’s soccer and track. The teams have been constantly improving and achieving their goals. Softball coach, Tara Whetzell said, “The softball team is coming together as one and playing really hard for one another. We are growing as a team and individually and that is what we want to see out of them as we get further into the season.”

The softball team currently has a record of 3-9. They have been working very hard at every practice and playing a lot of games. Whetzell says that their practices have been shortened time wise, but they are focusing on getting better defensively.

The baseball team currently has a record of 10-2. Two players were named to the Clever Tournament all-tournament team: Rhett Hill (12) and Josh Thompson (12). They have a very big game coming up soon that they are very excited about. Baseball coach, Christian Overstreet said, “We play Clever at Hammons Field on Monday, April 29th. That will be a fun game for us to play since we will be playing a conference opponent at Hammons Field.”

The golf team has played in five tournaments so far, and they had two players medal: Gaven Peterie (11) and Shain Lahey (12). One of their biggest goals is to compete at districts and have some Fair Grove golfers qualify to represent at the state golf tournament. Golf Coach, Bryan Tucker stated, “Shain and Gaven are coming off strong seasons from a year ago with an eye to get to the state tournament.”

The soccer team has a current record of 2-8. They have a lot of returning seniors that are leading the team in a positive way. Macey Stallings, Madi Psyhos, Shyanne McBroom and Cydney Fullerton are some key players that contribute to the team’s success. McBroom is coming back from an injury last season, and has been making an extreme comeback.

The track team has had three track meets so far, and they’ve done very well in all of the meets. Girls track coach, Lindsay Martin says, “We have had two track meets so far and both the boys and girls have done a fantastic job. I really couldn’t be happier with their performances.” There are many underclassmen that are stepping up and taking lead positions on the team. Sarah Beals, Emma Sandford, and Brook Luna have played a major role in the field events and relays. The spring sports as a whole have improved immensely since the beginning of the season and they are continuing to improve everyday at practices.
