Fair Grove High School Track leaves Districts with a promising group of athletes to move to Sectionals with. Track is the same as most High School Sports, where schools compete in Districts, and success there leads to Sectionals, and beyond that is the State meet. The difference with Track is that rather than a team progressing through a tournament, individual athletes progress in their own events.

The boy’s group has multiple trips heading to Sectionals, including Darin Oplotnik (11) taking third in Javelin, Garrett Cross (11) and Hayden Die (9) winning first and third in the Pole Vault. Dominick Hoskins (11) received first in the Triple Jump, Garrett Love (12) got fourth in Shot Put, as well as Elijah Young (12) with second in the 200 meter dash. The 4×100 meter relay earned fourth, David Oplotnik (11) and Jack McAtee (11) also won first and third respectively in the High Jump. Ryan Odom (12) ran into place first in the 400 meter dash, which like all the events, required immense amounts of training. Odom commented, “Preparation was and has been very intense. We train after school every day. Workouts have been rough, pushing ourselves to the limit to get faster.”

The Girls’ Track Team was also victorious at Districts. The 4×400 meter relay team won first place, and Sarah Beals (10) secured a place in Sectionals as well. Madison Clark (11) is also moving to Sectionals in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes. The Girls’ Track Coach, Lindsay Martin stated, “Each of my girls legitimately have an opportunity past Districts in their individual events. The girls’ four by four is currently ranked third in our Sectional.” The team is staying focused on their objective to ensure a favorable outcome at their next and possibly final meet.
