Concert band, hosted by high school band teacher Natalie Palomo, begins after marching band season. Rather than marching, the members of the band rehearse and play in an indoor setting.
Concert band may vary from marching season in many ways but they both express the musical capabilities of the band. Palomo explained, “Concert band is different from marching band because we’re indoors seated to play concert music, and some kids are on slightly different instruments.”
Another addition to the concert band is the members dress up in black and white for the concerts. Concert band performs in multiple settings including the Winter Concert, the Spring Concert, and performing at State Assessment for MSHSAA.
Amanda Lafreniere (10) explained, “There are a few ways to prepare for a concert but the big thing is practice because you can’t just look at a song once or twice and expect to know how to play the song(s) perfectly.”
“My favorite memory from the concert band was from last year. At our spring concert we played a song called The Great Locomotive Chase, but we just called it the train song. It went very well and everyone seemed to enjoy it,” explained Alyssa Wade (10).
Palomo added, “My favorite concert band memory from last year may be taking the band to State Assessment,” furthermore Palomo stated, “the kids did a great job preparing for it and we had a pretty good run when we were there, and it’s nice to hear judge’s feedback on our performance from a standpoint I don’t always hear.”
The Fair Grove Eagles High School band can be seen spreading their school spirit at concerts, town events, football games, and much more around the school and community.
