On February 29th, the fourth grade class performed their singing program called “In America’s History” in the elementary gymnasium.
Each year the fourth graders perform a musical program. The program this year was called “In America’s History,” and relates to the history of the United States of America.
The kids were excited to perform this program. Fourth Grade Teacher Christina Snitker said, “The students seem to be very excited and are constantly singing the program songs in our classroom. Each grade level does a music program every year, being fourth graders, this will be their last one.”
Elementary Music Teacher and High School Choir Pianist Cindy Sparks added, “I think the students really enjoy performing for their parents, plus, this is their last elementary program before moving to middle school. Parents and grandparents always enjoy watching their students shine in their performance.”
The students performed this performance twice on February 29th. They did a daytime performance during the school day for students, and a nighttime performance for friends and family.
The students performed five songs in their program. Sparks said, “The students have been working hard to learn Patriotic songs to perform at the program. Some of the songs include: The Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, You’re a Grand Old Flag, and Yankee Doodle. We will be performing a rhythmic cup routine to The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The program was themed this way to tie along with the current history the fourth graders are learning. Sparks said, “Music has played an important part in our country’s history.”
A rhythmic cup routine is when cups are hit, picked up, and hands are clapped in a rhythm. Sparks said, “The students work together to perform this rhythm throughout the song. It uses rhythms that we have learned this year focusing on eighth and quarter notes.”
The five songs they performed all tie into the United States of America. “The Star Spangled Banner” which is the national anthem, “America the Beautiful” is a patriotic song written after Katherine Lee Bates traveled through the Colorado mountains, “You’re a Grand Old Flag” is a tribute to the american flag, “Yankee Doodle” was a song the americans played in the revolutionary war, and “The Stars and Stripes Forever” is the national march of the United States of America.
This is the last year for these groups of elementary students. It is also this class’ last year performing a singing program.
