The annual Fair Grove Powderpuff game was held on October 16, 2024 with the teams playing as the Bikers and the Surfers.
Powederpuff was organized by Fair Grove’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and Distributive Education Clubs of America, (DECA). Haylee Potter, (11), a member of both FBLA and DECA shared, “I think Powderpuff is great for the community. Allowing the girls to play flag football is a great way to get the community gathered to support the school. The boys cheerleader’s performance is also something the community loves to see each year.”
Addyson Nunley (11), the FBLA co-president also expressed what they do with the money donated. “In the past few years we’ve donated the money we raised from powderpuff to Heart to Heart, and last year we donated to Dr. Hollan and her fight against cancer. This year, PowderPuff is a fundraiser for FBLA and DECA to raise funding in order for students to be able to pay less to compete and for other club activities.”
Setting up the Powderpuff game was a significant amount of planning for the people involved. Nunley stated that it took a lot of planning to get Powderpuff together and running. FBLA and DECA had to organize all of the teams, talk to the coaches and ask if they would be willing to referee the game, and talk to the Quarterback club about using the concessions.
Atticus Brandes, the other co-president to FBLA (12), stated that the theme for the Powderpuff game usually correlates to the theme of homecoming. Brandes expressed that the team needed to get shirts made and ready, as well as making sure that the football field is ready for the Powderpuff game. Each shirt was curated to what team each player was on, Bikers had the red shirts, and Surfers represented the blue shirts.
Each team consisted of Fair Grove football players as the coaches, the Bikers had Kellen Lair (12), Brock Bruner (12), and Spensar Seiger (12).The Surfer coaches consisted of Adrick Wilson (11), Jackson Austin (11), and Carson Krider (12). Each team also had cheerleaders, members who supported the two teams in their battle.
Members of the FBLA and DECA have hopes for how well the Powderpuff fundraiser went. Nunley stated, “I hope to raise a lot of money and get students excited for the upcoming year in FBLA and DECA.”
The game results consisted of the Bikers taking home the win with a score of 20-13 against the Surfers. Overall, the community was able to get together, and help aid Fair Grove High in donation.
