On October 25th, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), had their official first big event of the school year. Where students show up to play games, eat pizza and watch Hocus Pocus all to support the SADD message in a positive way.
SADD is a club run at the Fair Grove High School with the goal to help students prevent making destructive decisions that can have major impacts on their life, the recent SADD kickoff event helped to support this message.
According to Brenna Boatwright (11), a member of SADD, “The purpose of the SADD kickoff is to give students another option of fun things to do with their friends that doesn’t involve activities that could put them or others in harm’s way.”
Lindsay Dunning, the Fair Grove High School Teacher sponsor of SADD also mentioned that the purpose of the kickoff does help to share the message of SADD in a fun and safe way.
Preparation for the SADD kickoff takes time to plan and lay out what specific games and activities will be at the kickoff.
According to Jackson Anderson (12), a SADD member who organized the event alongside Mrs. Dunning, Boatwright, and Leila Huff (11) described, “We started weeks ahead of time planning the activities that will be going on at the event, as well as how we will go about getting them and how we are going to advertise the event to the high school. Once we had everything we needed, the organization part was pretty simple.”
The SADD kickoff event was to give students a way to hangout with their peers and have fun activities that don’t involve anything that would put them in harm’s way.
Jackson shared his thoughts over the event, “The purpose of the SADD kickoff event was to bring kids to a safe place for them to go after the football game rather than going out to make destructive decisions after an exciting game on a Friday night. With that being our goal, yes I do believe it was a success.”
Mrs. Dunning added, “The SADD kickoff event was very successful, as we had over 100 students attend. The weather was perfect and it was a great way to celebrate the big win over Strafford, in a safe and fun environment”
SADD will continue to share their message in a positive way throughout the school. The next SADD meeting will be the “Friendsgiving” event happening in November.
