The Fair Grove Pep Band has been seen and heard keeping up the spirit by playing songs at home basketball games. To be involved in Pep Band, students must be in high school and involved in band.
Waylon Wright (11) has been a member of Pep Band since his freshman year. Wright said, “In freshman year I played guitar. In sophomore year I played a split of guitar and drums. Now I’m entirely playing drums and that’s what I plan to do next year.”
Wyatt Barber (10) has been a member of Pep Band since his freshman year as well. His main instrument is Tenor Saxophone. His favorite memory of playing with Pep Band is the memories made with the upperclassmen who have now graduated. Barber said, “My favorite memory would have to be last year being with three seniors Seth, Liam, and Ayden.”
Riley Frazier (12) has been playing the flute in the Pep Band since her freshman year. Her favorite memory of Pep Band is playing music and growing with the people involved in the band. Frazier said, “My favorite memory from Pep Band is playing ‘Hand Clap’ in thirty seconds and getting closer with my fellow bandmates.”
Wright spoke about his favorite memory in Pep Band. Wright said, “My favorite memory from Pep Band has to be when me and Gavin Brock (11) started jamming at the end of a game on guitar and drums.”
The Pep Band prepares for their games by spending ten minutes before a game practicing their songs and performance. Frazier said, “We prepare by warming up and preparing the songs before going to perform.”
The only requirement for being in Pep Band is to be involved in a band class. Frazier said what she is going to miss most about Pep Band is the laughter and inside jokes that only the Pep Band would know about. Frazier said, “Anyone who is able to join Pep Band should definitely consider it!”
