Fair Grove Girls’ Soccer Team has started their season for the 2024-2025 school year and they have a few goals that they plan to try to accomplish.
Some of the girls play multiple positions on the soccer team. For example, Brooklyn Williams (12) said that she plays right wing, center mid, and defense mid. She explained, “As wing we are the outside channels and we carry the ball up the field to cross the ball or pass to our strikers to get a shot on goal and hopefully go in,” She continued, “as a center mid I am there to move the ball around the field and pass the the wings or forwards, as defensive mid I stay more back with the defensive line to help out and get the ball up the field and to the wings.”
Christopher Haviland is the assistant coach for Fair Grove High School boys and girls soccer. He said, “I coach soccer because I love the game! I also love to coach and see the growth of the players.”
Harlynn Irvine is a freshman this year, and she is also new to the team. She said, ” I play soccer because it’s a sport I’ve always wanted to do since I was younger, but never ended up doing it. I was really excited to get the chance to do soccer in high school and I already love the sport so much and I have so much passion for it.”
Williams is a senior this year and has been playing soccer for a while now. She mentioned, “I play soccer because of the team and the connection we all have outside of it. The girls on the team are what makes practices and games the most enjoyable. I also love the game of soccer and enjoy playing it.”
It is Williams’ last year playing soccer with her high school team and because of that she shared, “What I am looking to most as this is my last season is to see everyone achieve their goals and to see them succeed. I also am excited to come to some games next year and see how far they have come and how they have improved.”
Haviland mentioned, “I look for each player to improve and get better throughout the season! That applies to each individual and the team as a whole. It is a team sport so learning how to play with and rely on teammates is so crucial to our team’s success.”
Haviland also mentioned how he plans to accomplish all the goals he has for this season. He said, “I plan to achieve these goals by showing up to practice prepared and expecting each player to give their best when they arrive at practice and games.”
