The Fair Grove Girls Soccer Team wrapped up their season this year, on May 20th, in the first round of districts.
The preparation and training at the beginning of the year really shows at the end of the season how much everyone has improved and learned. Krista Miller, Fair Grove High School Girls Soccer head coach, said, “These girls have made vast improvements throughout this season… We focus on their technical and physical skills at the beginning of every practice and then move on to game strategy… I believe these girls now have the confidence on the ball, the soccer i.q, and the skills to bring home a win.”
Giuliana Kandlebinder (11) said, “I think the team improved on our skill and speed. I feel like we have connected passes WAY better than we ever have in past years.”
Makayla Steineke (10) shared, “We really worked on connecting to feet on the field and I think we got better at that and also we got better at communication on the field.”
Christopher Haviland, the assistant girls soccer coach, added, “On the soccer field we are improving every time we have a ball at our feet!… We have increased our technical skills throughout the season. Our goal is to come to our first practice already conditioned so that we can focus primarily on technique and strategy throughout the season.”
This year the goals set by the team were explained by Haviland, “Our end of season goal is to end as a team. Regardless of the score and our record, we want to leave the field knowing we gave it our best and played as a team.”
Miller said, “We always want to walk away better than we started. I want to see personal growth as well as growth in the program itself and I believe we have met both of those goals.”
Kandlbinder explained, “I feel great about this season, we have had a lot of small wins like scoring goals and connecting passes leading to those.”
With goals and small wins equal successes too and positive mindsets. Miller shared, “Our greatest success this year has been our overall attitude towards the game and one another. This set of girls really came together and decided to show up and give it their all. They proved their dedication to themselves as individual athletes, to each other as a team, and to their coaches and program by showing up everyday, working hard and never giving up.”
Kandlbinder stated, “The team’s mindset to the end of the season I’d say was mostly positivity. There were definitely some downfalls and negative thoughts along the way but we kept our heads up even though it was hard.” She added, “This team is amazing and the girls and coaches are great.”
The Fair Grove Girls Soccer Team ended their season on May 20, in the first round of districts against Liberty.
