Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is a club in Fair Grove High school that helps students strive to not make destructive decisions.
The Fair Grove SADD club is a student-led operation that helps students not commit bad actions. The club is sponsored by teachers Bailey Weaver and Lindsay Dunning. Weaver stated why she decided to sponsor SADD, “I joined SADD as a student in high school and I loved it.” She continued, “I knew the impact it had on students when I was a student, and I am excited to be a part of this organization as a sponsor!”
Weaver explained, “I think SADD is beneficial because it is a lot easier to do the right thing when you have a group of peers who are also supporting that decision making.” She also expressed, “SADD is lots of fun, creates great opportunities for students to hang out in safe environments, and we impart lots of knowledge and leadership to the student body.”
Kenna Fishback (12) is a SADD officer. Fishback stated “I am personally in SADD because I want to make a difference in our school. I have seen in my family what destructive decisions can do to someone, no matter their age, and I would love to help someone choose a better option.”
SADD doesn’t just talk about which decisions to do and not do; they also have events and field trips to have fun and be more involved in the community. Fair Grove SADD officer, Carson Trussell (12), said, “I love the events we put on. SADD events and field trips are always the best out of all the clubs.” He continued, “I want to continue to see amazing field trips and fun events that keep kids out of trouble.”
Introducing kids to SADD is one of the roles officers are assigned to do. Leila Huff (12) explained what she would say to kids that are contemplating joining SADD, “I would let people know that if they’re looking for somewhere to find friends or just a place to fit in, in SADD all we do is have fun and promote good decisions.”
The SADD program’s purpose is to help students make better decisions and have fun while they do that. Weaver stated, “I stand by this– There is not a single reason why every student at FGHS shouldn’t be in SADD. It’s for everyone and everyone should be part of it!”
