On April 28th at Fair Grove Schools, there was a huge hail storm that caused lots of damage. Almost every car in the parking lot had dents in their cars and a cracked windshield.
While the storm was happening, High School principal Randie Roepke was standing outside of the office and thinking, “I’m glad everyone is inside and safe and wow everyone’s vehicle is going to be damaged.”
The storm affected almost every car that was in the parking lot at the school. Taylor Wisely (12) said she ended up going home after the storm to cover her car in case there was another storm coming. She added, “It affected my car by denting it all over, breaking a piece off of the front and breaking a window. The possible payments will be a new window and a way to get the dents out.”
High School English teacher Bailey Weaver’s car was also damaged. She said, “I was so sad about my car. When we watched the hail come down so hard, I exclaimed, ‘Nooooooo! My carrrrrrrr!’ and Mackynzi Sekulic (10) comforted me by saying, ‘It’s okay, Weave. Everyone’s cars are destroyed.’ Luckily when I was able to check on it later, it wasn’t as bad as some cars. So while I am sad, I am thankful.”
Students were very worried during the storm. Weaver mentioned, “At first, I tried to continue teaching, but the hail was so loud and distracting, we all had to take a break and watch the storm together! I just gave us all time to talk about how crazy it was, and then we got back on task.”
After the storm had passed everyone was very worried about their cars. Roepke and Fair Grove assistant principal Damon Seiger let students go outside really quick to check on the cars and see the damage.
Multiple cars even lost the whole back windshield of their cars. Jalen Supancic let Fair Grove’s High School counselor, Tonya Peck, Seiger, and Roepke used the cross country tarps to cover up where the glass was completely shattered.
There was also damage done to the skylights in the gym and some other places in the school. Roepke stated, “I got a hold of maintenance while Superintendent Dr. Christian Overstreet got tarps over the skylights.”
Many students, teachers, and admin have damaged cars due to being parked outside in the parking lot.
