During the 2015-2016 school year, students participating in Culture Club raised money for their summer trip to Europe this past summer break. The students visited Spain, Rome and Paris. Culture Club left the United States on May 31st, and returned on June 10th.
The first destination the students visited was Madrid. The Culture Club met up with their local guide who showed them many different places such as Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Oriente and finally the Madrid Royal Palace. The students later visited Toledo, which many of the club members really enjoyed.
The second stop on the 11 day journey was Paris. In Paris the group toured Ile de la Cite and visited the Notre Dame Cathedral. Many students also got to ride a ferris wheel in Paris, which was one of sophomore Holly Lemon’s favorite parts of the trip. The second day in Paris the club got to see the Eiffel Tower. “I got to see the Eiffel Tower at night and it was like the icing on top of the cake, one of the most unforgettable moments of my life,” stated senior Victoria Fishback.
Finally, the club visited Rome where they met another tour guide who showed them around Vatican City. They later toured the Sistine Chapel, “The Cistine Chapel was amazing, every detail and feature was remarkable,” added Victoria Fishback. Also in Rome, the group took a boat tour of Capri. “The boat tour was very beautiful and a perfect ending to our trip,” stated sophomore Brystol Bates.
The Culture Club finally made it back to the United States on June 10th, putting an end to their nearly two week adventure. During the summer of 2017 the Culture Club, led by Shelley Thornton, will be going to England, Ireland, and Wales.
Another trip is also scheduled for the summer of 2018 to Australia, which students have already started fundraising for.
