Starting off the school year goes along with the kick off of fall sports, including our Fair Grove High School Boys Soccer, accompanied with new coaches.
The seniors returning to the field are Brandon Kandlbinder, Garrett Mullis, Bradley Blecher, Reid Breckner, and Haddon Lair. The two captains of this season are Kandlbinder and Mullis.
Senior Bradley Blecher explains his future goals for himself and the team, “My goals are probably just winning more games than last year, and having a good senior season…I hope to accomplish better scoring stats than last year, and I hope the team accomplishes a better understanding of soccer so they are good for next years to come.”
Owen Schlak (11), described his love for the game, and strengths as a team saying, “The learning experience from games is what I love most about this sport. Some of the goals I’m trying to make is getting through districts this year, I believe we are capable of doing so. One of our strengths is the back line, we have a really strong defense and a goalie who has improved so much the past few years.”
Kandlbinder emphasizes the strengths of the team, and his expectations as captain and as a senior by saying, “We have a lot of potential with our new freshman players. Jacob Shurtz and Finn Harp are big contributors to our starting line up. Aside from that we also have seniors that have the skill and mindset to perform to the best of their abilities…I hope to become better than the year before. Honestly, to take the team as far as we can go through districts. I want to see our hard work over the years finally pay off by winning some sort of title.”
Along with the new season comes new coaches for the team, Ryan Highstreet, and Chris Haviland.
Kandlbinder concluded by expressing his love for the game, “My favorite thing has to be the intensity of the games. Being able to perform against difficult teams really pushes us to our limits and tests our abilities in the game. Over the years I’ve seen my passion for the game of soccer grow more and more. It has been a big part of my high school life.”
Fair Grove’s Boys Soccer season is just beginning, goals are being set, and goals are trying to be made as the players tread into the fall season.
