The Middle School Student Council’s annual Fright Night is creeping up. Friday, October 27, from 3:45 pm to 5:45 pm, things are getting scary in the middle school.
The Middle School Student Council has been planning the haunting event for over a month now. Student Council sponsor and middle school science teacher, Lindsay Martin, stated, “Essentially this is a month long planning event. As a student council we spend every day in October preparing for this.”
Student Council member, McKenna Zanzie (8), explained how stressful planning Fright Night could be. She said, “It’s a lot more stressful to run Fright Night rather than enjoy it as a guest. You have to make sure everyone is enjoying it.”
Student Council member, Cinch Dowling (8), had a similar opinion on the difference between running Fright Night and experiencing it as a visitor.
Dowling, expressed how he felt about the leadership for this year’s student council and the Fright Night event, saying, “Ms. Martin has given roles to us students as directors and members. We have teacher, student, and staff groups. We have a care team and social media team.” Dowling continued, “We feel that it has been run better and we have a whole different theme. It’s going to be fun!”
Although this event can seem stressful for its planners, Zanzie later stated how rewarding the success of it is, stating, “It’s super rewarding at the end when you know people had fun. Being in the (Haunted) hallway, you get to see people get scared and you feel accomplished when others are scared. You feel that your job was done.”
The Student Council has made some changes to the hallway, to help add to its scariness and success. This year, they have decided to switch up the theme from the normal hallway, which included a haunted operating room, graveyard, and a haunted daycare, to an insane asylum. Martin explained part of the hallway, “Each group that comes through becomes an intake patient in the haunted insane asylum.”
The Haunted Hallway takes groups throughout the middle school, leading them throughout hallways and into different classrooms. Throughout the hallway, groups will see the middle school decorated as an insane asylum and see student council members and teachers dressed up as patients and doctors in the asylum.
Along with the Haunted Hallway, there are other activities being offered within these two hours. Pizza and soda will be offered throughout the night. There will also be a giant obstacle course and triple lane bungee run inflatables. The games will consist of cornhole, candy walk, laser tag, and gaga ball.
The Middle School Student Council has put in hours of work during the month of October to ensure that all who attend have an enjoyable experience. For any middle school student that is interested in attending Fright Night, wristbands are being sold every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch up until October 26.
