Family Career Community Leaders of America hosted the Cooking with Kids event on November 14th and 16th in the high school for grades kindergarten through fourth grade.
Cooking with Kids is a cooking class for younger kids. Seth Hardison (12) who is the president of Fair Grove schools’ FCCLA program and regional vice president of FCCLA said, “Cooking with kids is one of our events we have to better the community. We bring the students up to Mrs. Friberg’s (Darci Friberg, middle school and high school Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher, FCCLA advisor) room after school.”
The Cooking with Kids event happened over two days, on November 14th and on November 16th. On November 14th the event was for kindergarten first, and second graders, and for third and fourth graders on November 16th. It was held in the Family and Consumer Science (FACS) room in the high school both days.
The goal of this event was to be something fun for kids to do. Mrs Friberg said, “Each student that attends will be given a chef’s hat and apron to decorate and wear. They will make a savory and dessert pizza with toppings of their choice.” Hardison added, “We group the students up so they are not all cooking at the same time. 1/3 of the kids will be cooking the personal pizza and then the rest of the students will be decorating their aprons and hats.”
“FCCLA was looking for a community event that would double as a fundraiser. We are using the kitchen space in the FACS. classroom to create a unique and fun experience for the elementary students,” Mrs. Friberg said.
Another reason to host this event is according to Hardison, “The kids love the event and it brings so much joy to the community.”
Mrs. Friberg explained, “FCCLA is a student-led organization with family and community as its main focus.” The organization focuses on making leaders in communities and families.
Hardison added, “FCCLA is a national organization including American Territories. Within each state there’s a state council, and then within each state there are roughly 12 to 13 regions. Within each region there are a bunch of schools who have their own organization.”
As previously stated, Fair Grove’s FCCLA program is advised by Mrs. Friberg and the president is Seth Hardison. The vice president is Hadie Wingo (12), and the secretary and activity chair is held by Karlee Marion-Swan (11). There are 16 members at Fair Grove.
The Cooking with Kids event was on November 14th and November 16th in the Family and Consumer Science classroom in the high school.
