Valentine’s Day is a day for love that is celebrated differently by people. This year Fair Grove teachers explained how they celebrate.
Some teachers have said that they don’t do anything special for Valentine’s Day. Michael Van Cleave, Fair Grove’s high school math teacher said, “I do not usually make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day.”
Other teachers have said what they do for Valentine’s Day. Kezia Price, Fair Grove’s middle and high school art teacher said, “My husband and I celebrate by doing nothing. My husband usually buys me chocolates or flowers or will pay for me to get my hair done. My husband just buys things for himself because he is picky and he prefers it.”
Amy Johnson, one of the high school history teachers, said, “My husband and I live every day as if it is Valentine’s Day so we usually do not do anything special.” Johnson added, “I have given out candy and Valentine’s cards before.”
Stephanie Brown, the high school art teacher, said how she and her husband celebrate, “We really don’t do a lot anymore. When we were dating in high school and in our early 20s we bought each other gifts or made them. We were cutesy back then. Now, we just get our children little love gifts, and occasionally, we go out and eat.” She added, “Spreading love and happiness on Valentine’s day is my favorite.”
One of Fair Grove’s Elementary student teachers, Lauren Bledsoe said, “My husband has a job that takes him on the road, therefore we never end up together for Valentine’s Day, but we always try and do something little for each other even in the form of a card.”
Teachers have said how they do things for other teachers or how they plan to in the future. Price said, “I will usually buy teachers gifts throughout the year and on Christmas but I don’t do anything for them specifically for Valentines day. I had plans for a Galentine’s day with a few other teachers but sickness kept us from enjoying Galentine’s day.”
Sarah English, one of the high school science teachers said how she usually does not give gifts, but since one of her peers gave her a small Valentine’s card, she plans on doing it from now on.
In Fair Grove Elementary, class parties take place for Valentine’s Day. Bledsoe said, “This year, since I am student teaching, my cooperating teacher left me in charge of the party. I put together little gift bags for students and picked up a couple of decorations. Our students made little hearts to hang around our room and the party overall went really well! It was fun to plan the party knowing they would love it so much! Not much prep went into it though, besides communicating with parents.”
Johnson said, “I enjoyed going to my kid’s V-Day parties and making boxes/cards.”
Price explained her favorite part about Valentine’s Day. “My favorite part about Valentine’s day is seeing what the day means to other people and watching people spread love and kindness.”
