Fair Grove High School’s FBLA and DECA advisor, Cayse Overstreet, continues to educate and help prepare Fair Grove students for their future.
Mrs. Overstreet has been a teacher at Fair Grove for 12 years. For five of those years she has been the DECA sponsor, for 11 of them she has co-sponsored FBLA with another teacher. Prior to becoming the High School Business and Marketing teacher, Mrs. Overstreet taught as a specials teacher in the elementary at Fair Grove. She taught computers to classes from pre-k through fourth grade.
Throughout her time in the high school, Mrs. Overstreet has taught many different subjects. Three of those subjects were Intro to Business, Leadership in Business and Personal Finance. The other subjects that she has taught are all in the Marketing Department, which Overstreet happened to start over five years ago.
Those subjects are Intro to Marketing, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, School-Based Enterprise, Supervised Marketing Experience, Graphic Design and Multimedia.
Next year Mrs. Overstreet will be introducing a new class to the Fair Grove High School, Career and Business Prep. Overstreet stated that she is super excited to offer this class to Fair Grove students next year!
Mrs. Overstreet also has the pleasure of working with her husband, Dr. Christian Overstreet everyday. Her husband is the High School Principal at Fair Grove for the past two years, prior to that he was the Vice Principal and Athletic Director.
Dr. Overstreet stated, “I am very thankful for working with my wife. My job requires a lot of supervision and late nights, so if I didn’t work with her, I know the time I would spend with her would be very limited. Being on the same schedule and going to the same events, and supporting our students together make for a very enjoyable experience!”
Throughout the 12 years that the Overstreets have worked together at Fair Grove, they have put on many shows during assemblies and events, whether it be as a couple or just individual teachers.
Dr. Overstreet tells of a specific performance he remembers in depth, “A couple of years ago, all of the HS teachers did a dance at an assembly we held on the first day of school. Mrs. Overstreet and I dressed up like the couple from Grease and did a dance together. To my wife’s surprise, at the end of the dance, I did a toe touch and almost kicked her in the face, and it would have given her a broken nose! She has not let me forget about this!”
Dr. Overstreet also stated that he gets the behind-the-scenes look at how hard she works for her students. “I’d say my favorite part about working with her is seeing the impact she has on her students,” Dr. Overstreet continues,“She is very passionate about being a teacher, and she knows the impact she makes on kids goes well beyond the classroom.”
One of those students is senior Allison Findley, who will be competing in a national championship through one of Mrs. Overstreet’s clubs in the near future.
Findley stated, “Mrs. Overstreet has affected my high school career in a very positive way. She is always an encouragement to me and has taught me many life lessons through the understanding of business management. I’ve learned what it means to be a leader and the characteristics that make up a good leader.”
Another student of Mrs. Overstreets is senior Jackson Martin, FBLA Vice President of the Treasury Work. Jackson said that Mrs. Overstreet has been a great teacher and mentor for him throughout his High School career.
Findley added a personal note saying, “Mrs. Overstreet showed me that even though I’m young, I can still be an example in word, conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, and in purity. Mrs.Overstreet has set an amazing example of personal brand image by her characteristics, beliefs, how she communicates, her actions, and how she consistently goes out of her ways to help others.”
Along with her in-classroom classes, Mrs. Overstreet also is the sponsor for the student-ran school store, which has proven to be very successful under her supervision.
