The boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams have started out the 2016-2017 season strong and the junior varsity teams are following in their footsteps. Both of the JV teams currently have winning records early on in the season and are still improving since they get the opportunity to practice with and against the varsity team. This helps the players develop their skills and prepare for their upcoming years as a basketball player.
Coach Jeremy Faubion is currently the Head Coach of the junior varsity Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles are currently 6-4 on the season and are continuing to improve. Coach Faubion mentioned that he is really happy with the way his players pass and share the ball but hopes to improve on blocking and boxing out on defense. One of the losses came from Webb City. The game was very close and Webb City is a 4A basketball team. Coach Faubion allows his to team scrimmage against the varsity each week to enhance the JV team’s skills and prepare the varsity for their next game.
The boys’ basketball team has started out their season just as strong as the ladies, with their current record being 10-0. “We have improved defensively and specifically defensive rebounding,” added Coach Bryan Tucker. Tucker also stated that they need to continue to cut down on turnovers and executing in the half court while running their sets. Coach Brendan Carroll and the boys C team have also had a solid first month by winning the Rogersville Tournament. Coach Tucker and Coach Carroll hope to keep teaching their players and develop their skills for their upcoming years of varsity basketball.
The JV Lady Eagles will play their next game on February 2nd, at Skyline. The boys JV team will play Tuesday, January 31st, at Reed Springs.
