Middle School Sports Springing into Action

Many of the Fair Grove Middle School’s Spring Sports have been starting up in the previous weeks. Spring sports for Fair Grove Middle School include track, baseball, and softball.

Fair Grove Middle School Track has had a very successful season so far. They won the first track meet they competed in this year and are looking forward to their next meet and the rest of their season. They have seven total meets and are ready to compete in all of them.

Cinch Dowling (8) explained how he is using a quote to motivate himself for the season so far, “A quote that motivates me through the season is, ‘The only real limitation is the one you set for yourself’, which was said by Muhammad Ali.”

McKenna Zanzie (8) explained some of her motivation for the season, “Our motivation is from the movie Cars, when Lightning McQueen says ‘Faster than fast, quicker than quick. I am speed.'”

The track team is coached by Middle School Principal Marc Green and middle school English teacher Kayla Holt.

The softball team played their first game on Thursday, March 28th, against Skyline at Skyline. They lost this game, but they stayed resilient in the face of adversity to pull off a win against their long time rival, Strafford, in their next game.

Palin Lentz (8) said, “We really struggled to fight against Skyline and their amazing pitcher, but we rebounded with a win against our rival (Strafford),” she continued, “My personal goal for this season was to beat Strafford, which we did, and to also be a good teammate and role model to the underclassmen.”

Brooke Coates, head middle school softball coach and special education teacher, explained their motivation for this year’s season, “Our team phrase this year is ‘Be a bean.’ We did a group book study over The Coffee Bean by Jon Gordon.” This phase means to stay positive through adversity and to remain at your best without being affected by the outside world.

The Fair Grove Middle School Baseball team played their first game of the season on March 27th against Pleasant Hope in Pleasant Hope to start their season off with a win. The team is coached by Zachary Snodgrass.
