David Bruner is the Treasurer on the Fair Grove Schools Board of Education, and is currently serving his second year in the position.
Bruner is completing his fifth year on the board, but has only been the treasurer for the past two years during his second term. Bruner explained what he does as treasurer, “I have been in this position for two years. I’m responsible for reviewing and authorizing expenditures for the school district.”
Members run to be on the school board for a three year period or term. In addition, each member can apply for a certain position on the board. Bruner explained that to successfully apply to the board of education you need to reside in the school district, have completed a background check, and submit the candidacy form to the administrative office by the given deadline.
For his campaign period, Bruner advertised himself through the use of public signs and social media. In 2024 Bruner was elected as the treasurer of the board of education.

Bruner explained the responsibilities of the school board, “The school board currently has eight members. Responsibilities include hiring and overseeing the superintendent of the school; approving the hiring of school personnel; approving the annual school budget; overseeing academic performance of the school; and approving policies for the school district.”
The purpose of the board of education is to improve the school district in all aspects. District Superintendent Christian Overstreet stated, “The school board sets the district’s overall direction by establishing policies, approving the budget, and making key decisions that affect students, staff, and the community. While they don’t manage day-to-day operations, they work closely with the superintendent to ensure the district is focused on student success and using resources effectively.”
Bruner is an involved member in the Fair Grove Community, living in Fair Grove for over 20 years. He stated, “We have three children who either are active in the school district or were prior to graduation. We love this community and our school district and I want to be more involved.”
Overstreet explained Bruner’s work ethic over his years of being on the board, “Mr. Bruner is a thoughtful and steady leader who takes his responsibilities seriously. He is committed to supporting students and staff and focuses on making decisions that are in the best interest of the entire school community.”
Bruner has been very committed to helping the school district over his years of being on the board of education. With Bruner term coming to an end next year, he will be up for election again.
