This year, the Fair Grove Elementary Father-Daughter dance changed to the Little Ladies and their VIP’s dance, now allowing daughters to bring their dads, grandad’s, brothers, and even female role models to join the celebration and have fun with the girls.
The Little Ladies and their VIP’s dance, open to all girls from pre-K through fifth grade and their chosen VIPS, was a heartwarming success. The dance helped raise funds for the Fair Grove High School Class of 2026’s Project Graduation. By creating a space where every student felt celebrated, the committee created a night that was more than just fundraising, but a precious memory that will last a lifetime.
The Project Graduation Committee, the group behind organizing the dance, decided to remove gender-specific limitations to ensure that every student feels welcome. Kim Boatwright, a former Project Grad leader and Pre-K teacher, explained, “We wanted the dance to be for anyone the little lady wants to bring. We didn’t want it to be limited to just Daddy and daughters.” By opening the doors to anyone the daughters choose to bring, the committee ensures that every student can share this special experience with their special someone.
The theme of the dance was Denim and Pearls. The girls got to dress up in their dresses while the guests wore jeans and denim. Bright lights were hung from the basketball hoops, creating a starry night environment. The PTO organizers blacked out the windows with black construction paper to darken the gym. Other decorations they included were small white balloons that resembled strings of pearls and hung in the doorway and on the stage. In addition, they had artificial flowers along the railing of the bleachers. Jackie Huff from Something Borrowed donated and helped set up a backdrop for photos of the sweet couples.
Beyond the dancing, there were cookies and refreshments. Several mothers and grandmothers of our senior class donate cookies for our dance guests to enjoy. The PTO took in consideration all allergies and food diseases students and guests may have, making sure to include Alpha-gal and gluten-free options.
The dance was held on Sunday, April 19th in the upper elementary school gym. The event was organized and executed with the help of Class of 2026 student volunteers and supportive parents. Their hard work and dedication transformed the gym into a magical place for the girls, providing an unforgettable evening where every little lady felt like a princess.
Shelly Williams, a PTO member, recalled when her two daughters were young and went to the event. She remembered the dance being a big event that everyone looked forward to at Fair Grove. Williams takes so much pride and joy in being a part of preparing the event and gives it her all. She explained, “My favorite thing was watching the little girls with their special guest out on the dance floor, making sweet memories that I know they will always cherish! I also enjoyed seeing a few moms and grandmas attend the event with their daughters.”
Williams added, “Not everyone has a strong male role model in their lives, and it was wonderful to see everyone be included in the dance.”
